Groestlcoin 6th Anniversary Release

Introduction

Dear Groestlers, it goes without saying that 2020 has been a difficult time for millions of people worldwide. The groestlcoin team would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone our best to everyone coping with the direct and indirect effects of COVID-19. Let it bring out the best in us all and show that collectively, we can conquer anything.
The centralised banks and our national governments are facing unprecedented times with interest rates worldwide dropping to record lows in places. Rest assured that this can only strengthen the fundamentals of all decentralised cryptocurrencies and the vision that was seeded with Satoshi's Bitcoin whitepaper over 10 years ago. Despite everything that has been thrown at us this year, the show must go on and the team will still progress and advance to continue the momentum that we have developed over the past 6 years.
In addition to this, we'd like to remind you all that this is Groestlcoin's 6th Birthday release! In terms of price there have been some crazy highs and lows over the years (with highs of around $2.60 and lows of $0.000077!), but in terms of value– Groestlcoin just keeps getting more valuable! In these uncertain times, one thing remains clear – Groestlcoin will keep going and keep innovating regardless. On with what has been worked on and completed over the past few months.

UPDATED - Groestlcoin Core 2.18.2

This is a major release of Groestlcoin Core with many protocol level improvements and code optimizations, featuring the technical equivalent of Bitcoin v0.18.2 but with Groestlcoin-specific patches. On a general level, most of what is new is a new 'Groestlcoin-wallet' tool which is now distributed alongside Groestlcoin Core's other executables.
NOTE: The 'Account' API has been removed from this version which was typically used in some tip bots. Please ensure you check the release notes from 2.17.2 for details on replacing this functionality.

ALL NEW - Groestlcoin Moonshine iOS/Android Wallet

Built with React Native, Moonshine utilizes Electrum-GRS's JSON-RPC methods to interact with the Groestlcoin network.
GRS Moonshine's intended use is as a hot wallet. Meaning, your keys are only as safe as the device you install this wallet on. As with any hot wallet, please ensure that you keep only a small, responsible amount of Groestlcoin on it at any given time.

ALL NEW! – HODL GRS Android Wallet

HODL GRS connects directly to the Groestlcoin network using SPV mode and doesn't rely on servers that can be hacked or disabled.
HODL GRS utilizes AES hardware encryption, app sandboxing, and the latest security features to protect users from malware, browser security holes, and even physical theft. Private keys are stored only in the secure enclave of the user's phone, inaccessible to anyone other than the user.
Simplicity and ease-of-use is the core design principle of HODL GRS. A simple recovery phrase (which we call a Backup Recovery Key) is all that is needed to restore the user's wallet if they ever lose or replace their device. HODL GRS is deterministic, which means the user's balance and transaction history can be recovered just from the backup recovery key.

ALL NEW! – GroestlcoinSeed Savior

Groestlcoin Seed Savior is a tool for recovering BIP39 seed phrases.
This tool is meant to help users with recovering a slightly incorrect Groestlcoin mnemonic phrase (AKA backup or seed). You can enter an existing BIP39 mnemonic and get derived addresses in various formats.
To find out if one of the suggested addresses is the right one, you can click on the suggested address to check the address' transaction history on a block explorer.

ALL NEW! – Vanity Search Vanity Address Generator

NOTE: NVidia GPU or any CPU only. AMD graphics cards will not work with this address generator.
VanitySearch is a command-line Segwit-capable vanity Groestlcoin address generator. Add unique flair when you tell people to send Groestlcoin. Alternatively, VanitySearch can be used to generate random addresses offline.
If you're tired of the random, cryptic addresses generated by regular groestlcoin clients, then VanitySearch is the right choice for you to create a more personalized address.
VanitySearch is a groestlcoin address prefix finder. If you want to generate safe private keys, use the -s option to enter your passphrase which will be used for generating a base key as for BIP38 standard (VanitySearch.exe -s "My PassPhrase" FXPref). You can also use VanitySearch.exe -ps "My PassPhrase" which will add a crypto secure seed to your passphrase.
VanitySearch may not compute a good grid size for your GPU, so try different values using -g option in order to get the best performances. If you want to use GPUs and CPUs together, you may have best performances by keeping one CPU core for handling GPU(s)/CPU exchanges (use -t option to set the number of CPU threads).

ALL NEW! – Electrum Personal Server

Groestlcoin Electrum Personal Server aims to make using Electrum Groestlcoin wallet more secure and more private. It makes it easy to connect your Electrum-GRS wallet to your own full node.
It is an implementation of the Electrum-grs server protocol which fulfils the specific need of using the Electrum-grs wallet backed by a full node, but without the heavyweight server backend, for a single user. It allows the user to benefit from all Groestlcoin Core's resource-saving features like pruning, blocks only and disabled txindex. All Electrum-GRS's feature-richness like hardware wallet integration, multi-signature wallets, offline signing, seed recovery phrases, coin control and so on can still be used, but connected only to the user's own full node.
Full node wallets are important in Groestlcoin because they are a big part of what makes the system be trust-less. No longer do people have to trust a financial institution like a bank or PayPal, they can run software on their own computers. If Groestlcoin is digital gold, then a full node wallet is your own personal goldsmith who checks for you that received payments are genuine.
Full node wallets are also important for privacy. Using Electrum-GRS under default configuration requires it to send (hashes of) all your Groestlcoin addresses to some server. That server can then easily spy on your transactions. Full node wallets like Groestlcoin Electrum Personal Server would download the entire blockchain and scan it for the user's own addresses, and therefore don't reveal to anyone else which Groestlcoin addresses they are interested in.
Groestlcoin Electrum Personal Server can also broadcast transactions through Tor which improves privacy by resisting traffic analysis for broadcasted transactions which can link the IP address of the user to the transaction. If enabled this would happen transparently whenever the user simply clicks "Send" on a transaction in Electrum-grs wallet.
Note: Currently Groestlcoin Electrum Personal Server can only accept one connection at a time.

Vante.me: A secure and convenient service for Bitcoin vanity address creation

We would like to present a secure and convenient service for Bitcoin vanity address creation: https://vante.me
What is a vanity address?
A vanity address is a Bitcoin address that starts with a specific pattern. Example: 1VanteMe21JmABACJbp3pTSd89Ej9xmhUH
This service allows you to:
Details:
We use split-key address generation as described in this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=81865.msg901491#msg901491
The user generates a random keypair in the browser and stores the private key. This private key will never be sent to us and is only known and stored by the user itself. When Vante.me mails you the solution, it can be unlocked by using your private key . This way of working guarantees the user is the only owner of this Bitcoin address.
Feedback and comments are welcome!

Secure way to give bitcoins with adress, is it possible?..

I wonder if I can give for my friend as a present bitcoins with beautiful address? I mean is there any way to give to someone an address with his name included (1Robert1233323kdmcs...) and a private key without any possibility for me to spend it in the future? There is no trust, just confidence that it's his and noone could spend it. Maybe it's possible with multisignature?

When accessing or setting up your own Bitcoin wallet, you may notice that it just ends up being a bunch of numbers and letters that have no relevance to you or anything involved with you. What if you had the ability, though, to personalize that Bitcoin address so that it wasn’t just another random string of numbers and letter? Well, that’s exactly what vanity addresses are used for, giving you the opportunity to create a Bitcoin wallet which contains certain starting letters that spell out words like your name or brand. Let’s discuss these vanity addresses some more and learn how you can make your own personalized address.
This is not financial investment advice. This article will explain what vanity addresses are and how you can make your own.

Terminology

Bitcoin Wallet: A Bitcoin wallet is a software program where Bitcoins are stored. To be technically accurate, Bitcoins are not stored anywhere; there is a private key (secret number) for every Bitcoin address that is saved in the Bitcoin wallet of the person who owns the balance. Bitcoin wallets facilitate sending and receiving Bitcoins and gives ownership of the Bitcoin balance to the user.
Wallet Address: A Bitcoin wallet address is similar to a bank account number. It’s a unique 26-35 digit combination of letters and numbers and it looks something like this: 1ExAmpLe0FaBiTco1NADr3sSV5tsGaMF6hd
You can share your Bitcoin wallet address with others. With this, they will be able to send you Bitcoin.
Public Key: A cryptographic code that allows a user to receive cryptocurrencies into his or her account. The public key coupled with the private key are significant tools required to ensure the security of the crypto economy.

Familiarize yourself with these key terms in order to better understand how vanity addresses work.

What’s A Vanity Address?

To put simply, a vanity address is a Bitcoin address with certain starting letters that spell out words such as your name or your brand. This can make your own wallet stand out when receiving or sending Bitcoin, as it can tie in your name or any other word you might want as part of your Bitcoin wallet address. Think of your wallet address as your bank number which you give or show to people so that they can send you cryptocurrencies.
Currently, most - if not all - Bitcoin addresses are just made up of random numbers and letters. Getting a vanity address will definitely make you stand out and give your wallet a unique aspect. Here’s an example of what a basic vanity address would look like:

1googLemzFVj8ALj6mfBsbifRoD4miY36v

A vanity address is essentially a personalized bitcoin address. Most - if not all - Bitcoin wallet addresses are just a string of random letters and numbers, so getting a vanity address gives your wallet a unique aspect.

How Can I Make My Own?

There are two methods to create your own vanity address. The first way is to do it yourself, which is probably the most secure way as nobody can see the private key and public key pair. This does involve knowing a little bit of computing and downloading the correct software. You can then choose how much of your processing power you wish to dedicate to the process, but be aware that dedicating a large proportion of your CPU can make the program crash.
The other method - which might not be as secure - is to go onto a pool such as bitcoinvanitygen.com where you can outsource the work to Bitcoin vanity address miners. These miners dedicate their CPU & GPU power to finding the address you want and send it to you either via email or in the post (if you are paying for it). Although this is a quick process, there is the risk that miners could hold onto the private key that generated the address and use it at some point in the future to hack your funds and steal the millions your vanity address has stored in it.

To get a vanity address you can either make you own, which is the most secure way, or outsource it to vanity address miners.

Conclusion

When the world of cryptocurrency begins to get a bit boring, vanity addresses introduce a unique and even creative aspect to the process of sending and receiving cryptocurrencies. If you ever want to spice things up or make your address stand out, you can always get a vanity address to do so. Although it does take a significant amount of computing power, generating these addresses can make your overall experience much more personalized and allow you to stand out among other wallets.

Groestlcoin Release September 2018

Introduction

As always, the past 3 months since 22nd June have been crazy busy. The bears might still be around, but the show must go on and of course has not slowed the Groestlcoin development team in the slightest. Here’s a quick overview of what has already happened since the last release: - Integrated into the bitbns exchange, with the ability to buy Groestlcoin directly with the Indian Rupee. - Groestlcoin Rebrand Vote – Whilst there was much talk and push for a rebrand vote, the overall result was almost unanimously in favour of keeping our unique and conversation-starting name. With just 83 votes to Rebrand, and 2577 votes to No Rebrand. Thank you for all who voted, the funds raised are being used to fund ongoing hosting and development costs. - Integrated into the Cryptobridge exchange. Cryptobridge is a popular decentralised exchange where you always hold the private keys to your funds, only YOU have access to them. - Groestlcoin has been added to SimpleSwap – Groestlcoin can now be swapped with over 100 other cryptocurrencies, without signing up! - Groestlcoin has been added to UnoDax, one of the leading cryptocurrency exchanges in India, with TUSD, BTC and INR trading pairs. - Groestlcoin has been added to SwapLab.cc, where you can buy Groestlcoin using Bitcoin and over 50 other altcoins. Purchasing with VISA/Mastercard is coming VERY SOON. Discussed later: - Groestlcoin has been listed on #3 largest exchange in the world on volume, Huobi Global! More on this to come further on in the announcements. - Groestlcoin has been added to the Guarda Multi-Currency Wallet. - Groestlcoin has been added to Melis Multi-Device, Multi-Account, Multi-Platform, Multi-Signature advanced wallet! Already this list is far more than most other cryptocurrencies have achieved in the past 3 months. But this is just the tip of the iceberg of what has been developed.

What's been Happening?

GRSPay Released

We are so excited for this, that it has it's own separate reddit thread. Head over there now at https://www.reddit.com/groestlcoin/comments/9ikr5m/groestlcoin_releases_grspay/? to see more on this!

Melis Wallet

The the most advanced wallet for Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin and now Groestlcoin.
With Melis you have the complete control of your bitcoins and private keys, you can define spending limits policies and make use of two or more factors authentication. Melis is open source, published on GitHub.

How Melis Works?

You can create as many accounts as you want. An account is a part of your wallet that can be customised to your requirements. You can choose how many co-signers are required to spend funds. The accounts are completely independent and act like separate wallets from each other but can be accessed via the same details. A core feature of Melis is the ability to set a ‘primary’ device. With this you can set an account as ‘Secure’ so it is only viewable (and accessible at all) from the Primary device. You can have a savings account hidden from the outside world whilst also having your ‘spending’ funds available on the go. With Melis you can create a multi-signature account between N people, where up to N signatures are required to sign a transaction, choosing if any of those should be mandatory.

Integrated into Blockchain Financial

What is Blockchain Financial?

Blockchain Financial is a set of web based services for individuals and companies that want to make things happen with the Cryptocurrencies Ecosystem. - For those that don't know anything about cryptocurrencies, we offer tools that will let them receive, send and operate with an assortment of coins. - For those that are already riding the wave, we offer tools that will let them do all those things that they weren't able to do.

Blockchain Financials mission

We're not here to reinvent the wheel. We're here to make it run smoother for you, and we provide some of the most useful services you'll find on the internet, made in a way that is easy to understand and use on a daily basis. In short, we're a bunch of people that claim to be Crypto Evangelists. We strongly believe in cryptocurrencies, and our main promise is to push them up so more people get involved and take all the advantages they offer.

More information from Blockchain Financial

Back in 2014, the world was taken by storm when Facebook approved the first cryptocurrencies tipping apps. The first was for Dogecoin, and the second was for multiple coins.
The project was hosted on whitepuma.net, and persisted for almost two years, built up a massive user community and gave a home to Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin and dozens of other bitcoin-based altcoins.
After very active months, the tipping hype started to fade away. Then, the developers decided to jump into the next stage: bringing not only tipping, but also mining and a widget that could be embedded on websites to allow everyone to accept payments. Sadly, the work was never completed because the project started to require an unsustainable amount of resources. Then, in a painful decision, a shutdown was announced by December 2015.
A couple of months after whitepuma.net was closed, the source code was released by its creator as Open Source on GitHub. But it wasn't maintained.
Now, some of the original members of the dev and admin teams gathered up with a handful of the WhitePuma's elite users, and decided to make something good with the best pieces of the old source code. That, with fresh new ideas and the power of the BardCanvas engine, synthesized the core of Blockchain Financial.

Groestlcoin Core v2.16.3 - Please Update ASAP

A new major Groestlcoin Core version 2.16.3 is now available for download which includes both a Denial of Service component and a critical inflation vulnerability, so it is recommended to upgrade to it if you are running a full Groestlcoin node or a local Groestlcoin Core wallet.
v2.16.3 is now the official release version of Groestlcoin Core. This is a new major version release with a very important security updates. It is recommended to upgrade to this version as soon as possible. Please stop running versions of Groestlcoin Core affected by CVE-2018-17144 ASAP: These are 2.13.3 and 2.16.0.
As a result in this, all exchanges and services have been asked to upgrade to this version, so please be patient if wallets go in to maintenance mode on these services.

What's new in version v2.16.3?

This is a major release of Groestlcoin Core fixing a Denial of Service component and a critical inflation vulnerability (https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2018-17144) exploitable by miners that has been discovered in Groestlcoin Core version 2.13.3 and 2.16.0. It is recommended to upgrade to 2.16.3 as soon as possible. If you only occasionally run Groestlcoin Core, then it's not necessary to run out and upgrade it right this second. However, you should upgrade it before you next run it. If you know anyone who is running an older version, tell them to upgrade it ASAP. Stored funds are not at risk, and never were at risk. At this time we believe over half of the Groestlcoin hashrate has upgraded to patched nodes. We are unaware of any attempts to exploit this vulnerability. However, it still remains critical that affected users upgrade and apply the latest patches to ensure no possibility of large reorganizations, mining of invalid blocks, or acceptance of invalid transactions occurs.

The Technicals

In Groestlcoin Core 2.13.3, an optimization was added (Bitcoin Core PR #9049) which avoided a costly check during initial pre-relay block validation that multiple inputs within a single transaction did not spend the same input twice which was added in 2012 (Bitcoin Core PR #443). While the UTXO-updating logic has sufficient knowledge to check that such a condition is not violated in 2.13.3 it only did so in a sanity check assertion and not with full error handling (it did, however, fully handle this case twice in prior to 2.1.0.6). Thus, in Groestlcoin Core 2.13.3, any attempts to double-spend a transaction output within a single transaction inside of a block will result in an assertion failure and a crash, as was originally reported. In Groestlcoin Core 2.16.0, as a part of a larger redesign to simplify unspent transaction output tracking and correct a resource exhaustion attack the assertion was changed subtly. Instead of asserting that the output being marked spent was previously unspent, it only asserts that it exists. Thus, in Groestlcoin Core 2.16.0, any attempts to double-spend a transaction output within a single transaction inside of a block where the output being spent was created in the same block, the same assertion failure will occur. However, if the output being double-spent was created in a previous block, an entry will still remain in the CCoin map with the DIRTY flag set and having been marked as spent, resulting in no such assertion. This could allow a miner to inflate the supply of Groestlcoin as they would be then able to claim the value being spent twice.
Groestlcoin would like to publicly thank Reddit user u/Awemany for finding CVE-2018-17144 and reporting it (https://lists.linuxfoundation.org/pipermail/bitcoin-core-dev/2018-Septembe000064.html). Groestlcoin EasyVanity Released

Groestlcoin EasyVanity is a Windows app is built from the ground-up in C# and makes it easier than ever before to create your very own bespoke Groestlcoin address(es), even whilst not connected to the internet! You can even generate multiple keys with the same prefix and leave it on overnight whilst your CPU or GPU collects and stores these addresses locally.
If you're tired of the random, cryptic addresses generated by regular groestlcoin clients, then Groestlcoin EasyVanity is the right choice for you to create a more personalized address.

Features

• Ability to continue finding keys after first one is found • Includes warning on startup if connected to the internet • Ability to output keys to a text file (And shows button to open that directory) • Ability to make your match case sensitive (Where possible) • Show and hide the private key with a simple toggle switch, and copy the private key straight to your clipboard • Show full output of commands • Includes statistics whilst the application is running • Ability to choose between Processor (CPU) and Graphics Card (GPU) • Automatically detects 32 or 64 bit systems • Features both a Light and Dark Material Design inspired Themes • EasyVanity's search is probabilistic, and the amount of time required to find a given pattern depends on how complex the pattern is, the speed of your computer, and whether you get lucky. • EasyVanity includes components to perform address searching on your CPU (vanitygen) and your OpenCL-compatible GPU (oclvanitygen). Both can be built from source, and both are included in the Windows binary package. • Prefixes are exact strings that must appear at the beginning of the address. When searching for prefixes, Easyvanity will ensure that the prefix is possible, and will provide a difficulty estimate. • The percentage displayed just shows how probable it is that a match would be found in the session so far. If it finds your address with 5% on the display, you are extremely lucky. If it finds your address with 92% on the display, you are unlucky. If you stop EasyVanity with 90% on the display, restart it, and it finds your address with 2% on the display, your first session was unlucky, but your second session was lucky. • EasyVanity uses the OpenSSL random number generator. This is the same RNG used by groestlcoin and a good number of HTTPS servers. It is regarded as well-scrutinized. Guessing the private key of an address found by EasyVanity will be no easier than guessing a private key created by groestlcoin itself. • To speed up address generation, EasyVanity uses the RNG to choose a private key, and literally increments the private key in a loop searching for a match. As long as the starting point is not disclosed, if a match is found, the private key will not be any easier to guess than if every private key tested were taken from the RNG. EasyVanity will also reload the private key from the RNG after 10,000,000 unsuccessful searches (100M for oclvanitygen), or when a match is found and multiple patterns are being searched for. • Free software - MIT. Anyone can audit the code. • Written in C# - The code is short, and easy to review.

Custom DogeCoin Addresses! (with Pictures)

After looking around, I found out it's possible to actually generate your own Vanity DogeCoin Address!
For Example, I've got the address
DSavsteMgPEdgY9NmoGorXwxXCKhpaCgBM
to represent my username!
Here's a tutorial on how to do it. (this is for using the CPU version of the program, I do not know how to work the GPU version [every time I tried it failed] but I'm sure you guys can figure out by messing with it on your own.)
Go ahead and download Vanitygen from here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Vanitygen and extract it somewhere onto your computer (I guess you'd 'build' it if you're using linux)
Next, we're going to need to make a seed for the program since it runs off of a random number generator. Open Notepad and spray in as many letters and numbers as you want. The more the merrier! Once you finish knocking down the lifetime of your keyboard, save it in the same folder as your vanity gen. For this example, I'll name it rand.txt. (eg: http://savestate.info/upload/key.png)
Next, Shift Click an empty space in the folder to open up a command window, or open a terminal if you're using linux (eg. http://savestate.info/upload/shift.png) Type in... (if you have a 32 bit computer take off the 64)
vanitygen64 -X 30 -k -s rand.txt DMyName DAMNDog etc
And the DMyName DAMNDoge parts are what you replace with whatever you want! Make sure The letter following D is uppercase or a number, and not all letters and numbers will work. You just gotta play around until you find a combo that works. Also, the more you provide increases your chances of a hit. (eg. http://savestate.info/upload/cmd.png)
The amount of time that it takes to find one goes up exponentially depending on how many characters you have. On my (not very powerful) laptop, the average time for finding a single vanity address is (incl the D):
1-3: Immediately 4: 3 seconds 5: 7-15 seconds 6: 6-15 minutes 7: 4-10 Hours 8: 10-20 Days
NOTE: Some letters and numbers don't work, for example the uppercase letter "O", uppercase letter "I", lowercase letter "l", and the number "0" are never used to prevent visual ambiguity. (taken from bitcoin wiki) And there's a few others but I'm not too sure.
When you get hits, they'll look like this! (http://savestate.info/upload/match.png)
Once you get a Public Key that you're happy with, trash your seed file that you used and EMPTY the recycle bin. That way others can't generate addresses using the same seed as you if they were to gain access to your computer somehow. NOW take the private key and import it into your wallet using the command "importprivkey Label" in the debug window. (http://savestate.info/upload/import.png)
This will take a few minutes (might even lock up for a minute or two) and it will probably not even appear for a couple minutes. It just takes time. (approx 5 minutes-10min for me)
THERE YA GO. (WAHOO: http://savestate.info/upload/address.png)
I hope this is useful! Leave comments if you need help.

How to setup a Dogecoin Vanity Address!

WHAT IS A DOGE VANITY ADDRESS
Vanity addresses are ones where you can choose what characters appear somewhere in the address. For example, DPie5ucpypDTUsgquc3ea2Meg6TwpW6mW1. All Doge addresses must start with D (capital) and the second character must be a capital if it is a letter (not all letters accepted, for example I O Y W are not allowed as the second character). You can also create letters or words at the end or even beginning of the address such as:
Letters that I have found valid as second characters are: 5 6 7 8 9 A B C D E F G H J K L M N P Q R S T U

[Hiring] 5.1 mBCH (Bitcoin Cash) for anyone who can help me run oclvanitygen.

Im trying to generate a custom bitcoin vanity address. When I try to run the normal vanitygen (which works with the cpu and is really slow) everything is working fine. I get this: https://imgur.com/a/a7qZp and then I get an address and the private key, But when i try to run oclvanitygen (which works with the GPU) I get this: https://imgur.com/a/L9MV6 Only the difficulty shows and no address or privkey. My GPU is RX480 8GB if that matters. thanks.

YSK There is a way to generate a custom bitcoin address using your graphics card and a single tool for Windows and Linux!

Welcome all new and some veteran bitcoin users!
I was just trying to get back into the bitcoin market putting more thought into BTC as a currency this afternoon and so I thought what better way to get back into the game than to make my own personalized bitcoin address that makes it a bit nicemore professional to give out to other people.
After 20 minutes of searching for 1Adrian at the start, I had my own bitcoin address: 1AdrianHNTT9UqWoZDLVijS6BLPm6TrjQy
What is it? To those who do not know about this process, the term is called a Vanity Address and the process is quite simple, you tell your computer to generate lots of addresses (I was doing 30 million addresses per second with a GTX 680) until it finds one that starts with or contains the term/regex you want.
Why do I want one? Because it is much more personal and professional than a regular bitcoin wallet address. Great to hand out to friends and excellent to add to your company's purchase page to give users a sense of professionalism when buying with a fairly new currency.
Who can use it? The vanitygen tool can be run on Windows or compiled for Linux and OSX and works with all Intel and AMD CPUs and any GPU with OpenCL support.
How do I run it? On Windows? It is very simple to run on Windows by just extracting the contents of the zip folder and browsing to it using command prompt (Hold shift while right clicking a blank spot within the folder and choose the option "Open command window here") From there you run the command "oclvanitygen.exe 1Pattern" or "vanitygen.exe 1Pattern" depending if you want to use your GPU or CPU respectively, replacing Pattern with the term you want. If you would like to use a regex run the exe file with no arguments and it will show additional options.
More information about vanitygen can be found here!
Thanks for reading! This tool is not my own software, but it has been vetted for security flaws by many security professionals.

Want some personalized vanity addresses for your currency of choice? Check out Vanity Pool

I run a small project called Vanity Pool, it lets you outsource generation of cool vanity addresses through a split-key address algorithm - this means that your private key and thus your money is secure, even though other people mined for your address. This also means that you can get some nice vanity addresses and not have to spend a lot of your GPU time mining for the address instead of mining for your coin of choice.
So if you want some cool vanity address, like DDogeWowAA2EFcGmipzDjQBYQFXiqC8QFs or 1PiachuEVn6sh52Ez7o6Fymvw54qvQ4RBm , head on over to https://vanitypool.appspot.com/ , request a pattern you wish created (shorter patterns area cheaper and take a lot less time to generate), put in a public key that you own (you will need to use it later), when asked for network prefix, put in the decimal version of your coin-specific net-byte. Afterwards, you will be requested to pay a bounty in BTC (creating coin-specific pool would make the mining power a lot smaller; miners prefer being paid in BTC). After the payment is confirmed, any miner connected to the pool will start looking for the solution to your pattern.
Once you have the solution, either use Casascius' Address Utility, or head on over to our online tool (use coin-specific hex NetByte and hex Prefix Byte). After that you can import your new vanity address to your client by going through those steps (example using Dogecoin client).
Have fun!

Custom Potcoin Addresses Tutorial :)

Before your heads explode take it step by step and you will be fine :)
Hello guys, thought it would be cool to share this little tutorial for you guys.
Basically this will show you how to make Custom Addresses (to a extent :P)
(Keep in mind these are mainly for short addresses after you get to many characters it could take a very very long time without a monster computer)
It will generate the address and give you the private key to import it to the wallet.
Keep in mind the longer the custom you want the longer you will have to wait (works better with fast cpu or gpu which you miners know about :P and some characters may come up as invalid because they can't be used in that order so you will have to play around a bit)
First off the addresses will always start with P since that's potcoin address setup just like bitcoin always starts with 1.
Few addresses that i generated within seconds as proof
(don't use these, since I posted Private keys they are are not PRIVATE ANYMORE )
These are just to show you what I mean
Pattern: Weed Address: PWeedMWASbZnsjEPJi7ndf1CyKRzpD8efc Privkey: 78kLLDRxWtY8v6ZiY2AsRJsrheLyo9XLwXTVooyza3gWEqNWwJq
OR
Difficulty: 264104224 Pattern: BLUNT Address: PBLUNTMJCN8S8Z5EYPxxDx6dEizHYJMyk8 Privkey: 7AUzg3k4Hwa44CcFb9ShLxy6noYoEBjMMmD3UAGb7FGVemJvKcY
So let's get started. First thing is download VanityGen from bitcointalk
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=25804.0
Second extract all the files (do it to a desktop folder, you will see why in a bit).
Then run CMD (command Prompt) and go to the folder vanitygen is located
(if you just extracted to desktop type)
cd Desktop\vanitygen-0.22-win
into command Prompt. If you named the folder something else typing CD and then a directory will direct you their
OK now that's done it gets more simple :)
Now that it should show you something like
http://i.imgur.com/xPTKrCj.png
Then you will type in
vanitygen -X 55 P or vanitygen64 -X 55 P
The 64 is for 64bit computers
The command vanitygen opens the program, the -X tells it that we are not trying to generate a bitcoin address, and 55 <--That's in Potcoins source code stating our addresses need to start with a P.
So for instance you wanted your own PASS (pass the joint :) ) address you would type the command
vanitygen64 -X 55 PASS
or
vanitygen64 -X 55 PWEED
for you own weed address, keep in mind if you have a 64 bit or not to use the correct command.
Notice it needs to be all CAPS.
Now wait for it to generate you the address,
Few things to remember
1.Long addresses take ALONG TIME 2.Some keys or characters are not allowed in addresses as stated above. 3.If you have any problems make sure you read the tutorial again (if you still have problems feel free to ask here). 4.Enjoy and make some sexy potcoin addresses. 5. Feel free to tip if you liked this tutorial :)
PASSyJ4HZ1R47D36ZjzJvt5PNg53rWu1sn <----One I just generated for donations :P
Have fun and Smoke Em if you got Em (Mad Potcoins you got that stuck in my head today :P)
PS. This is what it should look like if done correctly (it's generating the address) http://i.imgur.com/90Nxt2U.png
PPS. If enough people want or have trouble I can make a video tutorial :)

Are Vanitygen ASICs possible?

Hi Reddit, I was wondering today as I generated a new bitcoin address with my GPU, would it be possible to create an ASIC or program an FPGA to create Vanity addresses? I was thinking this, because wouldn't it be similar to mining ASICs in the fact that their main purpose is to look for something, in mining it would be a high number (I believe) and in vanitygen it would be the designated wallet address. Is this possible or have I gone insane?

[WTS] Custom Bitcoin Vanity Addresses

I'd like to put my GPU to work!
I'm selling custom Vanity Addresses. This would be an address that starts with almost anything you'd like. An example would be Bitcoinity's donation address, which starts with 1comboy. Of course, a vanity address has to follow bitcoin address rules. That is, no upper case "I", no lower case "l", no upper case "O" and no zeros.
The process is simple. PM me with what you'd like in your vanity address, plus your public key. The public key is required for Split Key address generation, which allows me to produce private keys that are useless to me, for your security. For more information on this, visit https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Split-key_vanity_address
Pricing:
I'm going to set my prices in USD. The cost will be the equivalent in BTC. I have included time estimates, based on what I've seen personally, but I've also noticed that certain types of character strings can take longer than others. If your requested string will take substantially longer than these estimates, I'll let you know. Also note that these estimates are about how long it will take me to actually produce the prefix and not necessarily when you'll have your private key. I'm not always at my computer and there could be a backlog of orders.
For 1-4 characters, the price will be $5. These can be generated by me nearly instantly.
For 5 characters, it will be $10. These can take in the range of 30 to 120 minutes, but could be longer or shorter.
For 6 characters, it will be $20. These can take in the range of 8 hours to 24 hours, but could be longer or shorter.
I'm generally not willing to try to produce a 7 character vanity prefix or longer, unless you make it worth my while. 7 character address prefixes can take more than a month for me to produce.
Once your address is produced, I will PM you your private key.
Also, I'm willing to change the prices if these seem not right. Also Also, I'm willing to use an escrow service, but I'm admittedly not familiar with which ones are good to use. This is my first time trying to provide a service for bitcoin, so I may be a little shaky until I get things smoothed out. Feedback is appreciated. And thanks for looking.
